Pinterest Ads Attribution Windows: Click-Through vs. View-Through

Pinterest Ads can credit a conversion after an ad interaction even when the customer does not purchase immediately. Click-through attribution connects a later action to someone who clicked; view-through attribution can credit an action after someone saw an ad without clicking, subject to the account’s settings and reporting rules.

Analyst comparing campaign attribution reports and customer journeys.

Why the attribution window matters

An attribution window sets how long after an eligible interaction a conversion can be credited. A longer window can capture more delayed purchases, especially for products people save and revisit. It can also make a campaign appear responsible for sales that another channel or customer touchpoint influenced.

Always note the click and view windows used in the report. Platform defaults and available choices can change, so confirm the active account settings instead of assuming two reports use the same period.

Separate clicks from impressions

  • Click-through conversions follow an ad click before the conversion.
  • View-through conversions can follow an impression without an ad click.
  • The two groups answer different questions and should be reviewed separately.
  • Changing the window can change historical interpretation without changing order volume.

A view-through conversion is not proof that an impression caused a sale. It is a platform attribution rule. Pair these reports with site analytics, order records, and, where volume allows, experiments that estimate incremental impact.

Compare channels consistently

Pinterest, search, analytics, and other advertising platforms may use different attribution models, windows, time zones, and conversion definitions. Do not add each platform’s attributed revenue together as if every platform owned a separate set of orders. Use a common comparison window where possible, preserve platform-specific reports, and identify which system is the source of truth for orders.

Use windows as a diagnostic choice

Review shorter and longer windows to see whether campaigns mainly capture immediate response or delayed consideration. Compare the pattern by product price, buying cycle, and audience. Keep the selected window stable for routine trend reporting, then document any change. This makes performance shifts easier to interpret without implying that attribution settings create additional sales.
