A search campaign may be eligible for Microsoft search properties and, when enabled or available, partner search inventory. The distinction matters because a click can come from a different property, audience context, and placement environment. Availability and controls vary by market, account, and campaign type, so review the settings currently shown in the account.

What the network setting changes
Search inventory typically places ads alongside results for an active query. Partner inventory can extend reach to other search experiences that distribute ads through the network. The added volume may be useful, but it should not be assumed to have the same intent or quality as traffic from the primary search property.
A network choice changes where an ad can be eligible to show; it does not change what makes a conversion valuable. Keep campaign goals, landing pages, and conversion definitions consistent when comparing sources.
Evaluate placements with business evidence
Use any available network or publisher reporting to compare spend, search intent, qualified lead rate, and downstream outcomes. Some reports may have limited detail, and low sample sizes can make placement comparisons unstable. Note the date range and the delay between click and sales qualification.
If partner traffic is weaker, first check whether the campaign is attracting the wrong searches or sending visitors to a mismatched page. A placement label alone does not identify the cause.
- Record the starting network settings before a test.
- Compare qualified outcomes as well as clicks and form submissions.
- Change one major network setting at a time where the account permits it.
Set a review rule
Decide in advance what evidence would justify keeping, limiting, or separating partner traffic. Use a time window long enough for conversions to mature and keep a note of any seasonality or budget changes. This prevents a short burst of cheap clicks from being mistaken for durable incremental value.
