Import Google Ads Campaigns Into Microsoft Ads: Audit Settings Before Launch

so-editorial-582-minimal-desk

Importing a Google Ads campaign can reduce repetitive setup when testing Microsoft Ads, but a copied structure is not automatically a ready campaign. Platform features and defaults can differ, and a successful import does not prove that tracking, budgets, or targeting match the intended plan.

Editorial still life featuring minimal desk.

Define what should transfer

Choose campaigns deliberately rather than importing an entire account by default. Record the purpose, target market, landing page, budget, and conversion goal for each one. Exclude paused experiments or settings that were temporary in the source account.

Review campaign types, networks, locations, languages, schedules, bidding, audiences, and assets in the destination. Check the import summary and destination settings instead of assuming that similarly named options behave identically.

  • Confirm the correct campaign and ad groups were selected.
  • Review daily budgets, bid strategy, and location intent.
  • Inspect match types, negatives, and any automated recommendations.

Rebuild tracking for the destination

Use destination-specific tracking parameters and verify that click identifiers or other supported signals are captured on the landing page. Confirm that the conversion action represents the intended business outcome and that the tag or event fires once under the right conditions.

Do not rely on a copied conversion goal until a test click and a test conversion can be traced to the destination account. A campaign may spend normally while its conversion reporting is missing or duplicated.

  • Validate URL templates and campaign naming.
  • Test forms, thank-you states, and CRM source fields.
  • Keep a record of test events and accepted conversions.

Use a controlled first launch

Start with a scope that can be monitored and supported. Compare search terms, impression delivery, spend, and lead quality with the original campaign while accounting for differences in audience reach and auction conditions. Do not assume that equal budgets create equal traffic or outcomes.

Create a rollback path: pause the imported campaign, restore the prior settings, or remove broken assets. Once the destination is stable, document any platform-specific changes so future imports do not repeat the same QA.

  • Set a spend guardrail and review cadence.
  • Check destination reports separately from the source account.
  • Scale only after tracking and lead handling are verified.
